Course Structure
The Audio Engineering and Music Production diploma program provides 720 hours of integrated theory and real-world studio practicals. You will be attending class 4 hours per day, 5 days per week.Prerequisite: Enrolment in all 100-level courses
This course introduces the fundamentals of sound perception, acoustics, and musical structure. Through hands-on demonstrations and workshops, students explore the physical and perceptual properties of sound in various environments
Prerequisite: Enrolment in all 100-level courses
This course builds foundational audio engineering skills for recording and mixing. Students learn signal flow, mic and DI techniques, preamps, console workflow, and software applications. It also explores key roles in recording and production, providing insight into professional audio engineering.

This introductory course covers Pro Tools, a digital audio workstation (DAW). Students learn to use it for music creation, sound design, audio post-production, recording, editing, and mixing.

This comprehensive course equips students with the technical and creative skills to produce music from start to finish. Students explore Ableton Live’s intuitive interface to program MIDI, design sounds, record, edit, mix, integrate controllers, and apply various music production techniques.

This course explores harmony, melody, rhythm, notation, structure, and texture through contemporary examples and analysis. Students apply these concepts by composing original music and developing a repertoire of creative techniques along the way.

This course explores the technical principles and practical applications of microphones and recording techniques, with a strong focus on analog equipment. Students will learn about electronics and soldering, including gaining hands-on experience with audio cables, connectors, and system operation in both analog and digital contexts.

In this course, students will learn the mixing process, developing both technical and creative skills to achieve a professional sound. Through hands-on practice and critical listening, they will explore key concepts such as balancing levels, EQ, dynamics processing, and spatial effects to ensure their mixes translate well across various playback systems.

In this course, students learn to create and manipulate sound using both fundamental and advanced synthesis techniques within a DAW. These skills serve as the foundation of sound design, with core principles also applied to analog synthesizers, bridging digital and hardware-based approaches to synthesis.

This course focuses on developing efficient workflows for music production and composition using Ableton Live, helping students refine their techniques for faster and more effective creative work.

In this course students will learn the fundamentals and techniques used by industry professionals in the post-production process. Students will learn how to spot, edit, and assemble dialogue, sound effects, foley, and music using Pro Tools.

This course covers key topics like streaming, marketing, royalties, publishing, live music, and entrepreneurship. Students will explore the impact of streaming on revenue, learn effective marketing strategies, and develop skills in audience engagement and brand building. Emphasis is placed on goal-setting and entrepreneurship, providing students with the tools to launch and sustain successful music ventures.

This course focuses on the completion of a student’s professional portfolio, including selection, development, evaluation, and refinement of portfolio pieces. This course helps you develop and present your portfolio to prospective clients, essential for networking and marketing yourself in the industry.

This course explores advanced mixing, mastering techniques, and professional workflows. Students will enhance their critical listening, refine technical skills, and develop the vocabulary to give and receive constructive feedback.

In this course, students participate in live recording sessions, applying their technical knowledge in real-world studio settings. Students will manage the entire recording process, developing essential communication and time management skills for professional environments.

This course introduces core skills and workflows for creating game audio using Pro Tools. Students learn sound design techniques and practical workflows through demonstrations and hands-on practice. Together with Pro Tools Fundamentals I, this course prepares students for the Avid Certified User: Pro Tools for Game Audio certification exam.
Prerequisite: Enrollment in all 300-level courses
This course introduces students to the technology and techniques for creating immersive live performances. Using Ableton Live, students will learn to integrate audio with video, lighting, and lasers for synchronized audio-visual experiences. The course also covers using MIDI equipment to create dynamic performances.
Prerequisite: Enrollment in all 300-level courses
This course explores sound design techniques for film and television, focusing on backgrounds, ambiences, sound effects, and dialogue. Students will learn proper metering, session organization, and record Foley in sync with visuals. They will also experiment with objects and props to create unique sound effects.
Prerequisite: Enrollment in all 300-level courses
In this course, you’ll learn to set up and operate a small live sound system for multi-channel presentations. Topics include FOH console operation, gain staging, monitor setups, signal processing, pre-production, stage plots, input lists, and concert etiquette.
